OGMIA Becomes Resident Dance Company of San Fernando de Henares

The OGMIA company, directed by Eduardo Vallejo, will be based at the 'Joaquín de Luz' Municipal School of Music and Dance and will develop an annual programme with activities for young people, seniors, and educational centres. It will be presented on September 18 at the Federico García Lorca Theatre.

San Fernando de Henares has incorporated the OGMIA company as its Resident Dance Company, a project aimed at bringing contemporary dance closer to the public and establishing a stable link between artistic training and the municipality. This was presented on Friday by the mayor, Javier Corpa; the councillor for Culture, Pablo Sanz; and the director and founder of OGMIA, Eduardo Vallejo.

The company, created in late 2019 by Vallejo, will be based at the 'Joaquín de Luz' Municipal School of Music and Dance and will develop a stable project linked to the city, with an annual programme of activities aimed at young people, seniors, students from educational centres, and other groups. It also plans proposals in unconventional spaces and collaborations with various municipal areas.

With this incorporation, San Fernando de Henares becomes the tenth municipality in the Community of Madrid to be part of the network of resident dance companies, as reported by the City Council. The project is supported by the Ministry of Culture of the Community of Madrid.

The mayor highlighted that the residency goes beyond adding a company to the cultural programme:

We are starting a relationship of continuity with dance and contemporary creation. OGMIA is not coming to perform just one day; it is coming to stay, to be, to create links and to build the city.

Corpa added that culture is understood as an essential public service and that this residency will bring contemporary dance closer to people who may not have had contact with it before.

For his part, the councillor for Culture emphasised the project's vocation:

To bring dance to the public and ensure that it is present not only on stage but also in other spaces and in contact with different groups in our city.

Eduardo Vallejo explained that the company, which has participated in festivals such as Madrid en Danza, is now looking to grow alongside San Fernando de Henares and contribute to the creation of new performances.

The official presentation to the public will be on September 18 at 19:30 at the Federico García Lorca Theatre, with free entry until full capacity is reached.
