The Town Hall of Colmenar Viejo has scheduled ColmeTREN for Year 4 on 21, 22, and 24 September, talks on alcohol and drugs at schools, and a mobility caravan from 5 to 9 October in El Cerrillo Park.
The Town Hall of Colmenar Viejo has organised a programme of activities on sustainable mobility, road safety, and prevention that runs from 21 September to 9 October, coinciding with the European Mobility Week, which takes place from 16 to 22 September.
The Councillor for Mobility, Isabel Álvarez Díaz, explains that the aim is to raise awareness of these issues beyond specific dates: “We want to highlight sustainable mobility and road safety, and do so without limiting it to specific days, with activities that will take place over several weeks and tailored to different ages.”
This initiative aims to raise awareness among residents about the public health and environmental benefits of opting for more sustainable modes of transport, such as public transport, cycling, or walking.
On 21, 22, and 24 September, ColmeTREN will take place, aimed at Year 4 primary school students. The pupils will tour the municipality on a little train accompanied by a presenter who will explain the most notable places in the town, some of its legends, and aspects related to sustainable mobility.
Throughout September, secondary schools and adult education centres will host talks on the risks of alcohol and drug consumption while driving. The sessions combine a theoretical part with a practical and virtual component where participants can simulate how these substances affect reflexes, reaction time, coordination, perception, or vision.
The programme will conclude from 5 to 9 October with the Healthy and Sustainable Mobility Caravan, organised together with the Department of Environment and Sustainability in the esplanade of El Cerrillo Park. It is aimed at children aged 8 to 12 years. In the mornings, students from Year 3 to Year 6 from local schools will participate, and in the afternoons, from 15:30 to 17:30, the caravan will be open to families.
Attendees will explore three areas: an escape room, a safe and sustainable mobility circuit with bicycles and scooters, and a prevention corner with tests and interactive activities that they will need to solve in groups.
