Alcalá de Henares Kicks Off Its Saints' Children Festival This Tuesday

The Patron Saint Festivities of the Saints' Children in Alcalá de Henares begin this Tuesday, August 4, and will run until August 9, offering a wide range of activities for all audiences.

Alcalá de Henares kicks off its Patron Saint Festivities in honour of Saints Justo and Pastor this Tuesday, August 4, which will continue until August 9. The programme, organised by the City Council, includes everything from playgrounds to concerts and religious events, aiming to reach all audiences.

Among the offerings are traditional games, tragaldabas, family workshops, magic shows, storytelling, water games, and foam parties, as well as guided tours to learn about the city's historical and cultural heritage. Music will play a special role this year, with a greater number of concerts than in previous editions.

The programme will start this Tuesday with the inauguration of the painting and sculpture exhibition Pincel y Cincel, a conference by the city's official chronicler, Vicente Sánchez Moltó, and the celebration of the Holy Mass. The following day, August 5, the opening speech will be delivered by Gema García Merino, president of the Brotherhood of Our Lady of Val, followed by the traditional floral offering to the Patrons and a concert by Chanzo.

The musical performances will feature local artists such as Chanzo, Naif Band, and Luis de Diego with his show Poprumbeando, as well as Metrolé, Metropop, the Stigma orchestra, the Marlen orchestra, and local DJs who will liven up the nights in Plaza de Cervantes.

The most traditional events will continue, such as the transfer of the relics of the Saints' Children, the solemn mass, and the procession on August 6, presided over by the bishop of Alcalá, Antonio Prieto. There will also be a parade of the Comparsa de Gigantes, the XLIV Saints' Children Swimming Trophy, a chess tournament, and charitable activities, including the distribution of migas and paella in favour of the San Diego Scholarship.

Residents and visitors can check the details of all activities in the programme published by the Alcalá de Henares City Council. Most events are free and will take place in various locations in the historic centre, with Plaza de Cervantes as the epicentre of the festive nights.
