The Local Government Board of Rivas-Vaciamadrid has tendered this Thursday the first phase of the metro covering works, with a municipal investment of 500,000 euros and an execution period of four months from the signing of the replanning act.
The Local Government Board of Rivas-Vaciamadrid has tendered this Thursday the first phase of the metro covering works, an initial section that will extend the Linear Park to the Cerro del Telégrafo sports centre and continue the pedestrian route to Junkal street. The project has a municipal investment of 500,000 euros and an execution period of four months from the signing of the verification act.
The project will create a continuous pedestrian route between the Linear Park and Junkal street and improve the connection between the West and Centre neighbourhoods. In addition, the Town Hall will open to general use an area of the Cerro del Telégrafo sports centre that has so far been mainly linked to users of the sports facilities.
The works will take place at several points. In the Linear Park, the paving and width of the path between the current maze and the avenue of Almendros will be improved. On this avenue, the pedestrian crossing will be adapted to make it more accessible and improve visibility, and the foundation and channels for a future pedestrian traffic light will be executed, the installation of which will be processed through a separate file.
The route will continue through the Cerro del Telégrafo sports centre, where access from the avenue of Almendros will be opened to the public. In this space, certain pavements and lighting will be improved, and new security enclosures will be installed to protect the sports facilities, with access control systems. From Cerro del Telégrafo, the route will continue to Junkal street, where the existing lighting will be renewed.
This first phase ends at the point where the future covering of the Metro Line 9B will begin. A 2.5-kilometre park is planned over the tracks that currently run at ground level, which will extend the Linear Park from its beginning to Rivas Futura. The covering will eliminate the railway barrier, connect the economic area of the Santa Ana industrial estate with the residential area, and create a green corridor from one end of the city to the other.
The Town Hall of Rivas-Vaciamadrid and the Council of Europe Development Bank (CEB) ratified last Monday a financing of 40 million euros for the project, one of the engines of the Rivas Urban Agenda 2030. The mayor, Aída Castillejo, and the CEB representative in Spain, María Sigüenza, signed the financing line.
In the same session, the Local Government Board approved the building permits for two projects that had already passed a prior procedure in the July plenary. The first is the care complex of ASPADIR, with a rehabilitation centre and a day centre for people with intellectual disabilities, located on Avenida del Levante, on a plot ceded by the Town Hall.
The second permit is for La Corrala, one of the three cooperatives in the senior cohousing project Cohabita Rivas. This first care building will have 30 residential units, common spaces, storage rooms, and a garage, with a total built area of 6,065.84 square metres. It will be located on the plot ceded by the Town Hall in the area around Guillermina Medrano street, in the La Fortuna sector.
The Local Government Board has also approved the extension of the contract for psychological, social, and legal assistance services to victims of gender-based violence, which is provided from the municipal point of the Observatory against Gender Violence. In 2025, this service assisted 414 women, of whom 27 were children of the victims.
