The Alcalá de Henares City Council has begun the renovation of the central access to the Fairgrounds from Ronda del Henares, with an investment of nearly €10,000 and a timeframe of two to three weeks.
The Alcalá de Henares City Council has initiated the renovation works of the staircase that connects Ronda del Henares with the central access to the Fairgrounds. The work, which has already started, will require this pedestrian passage to remain closed for an estimated period of two to three weeks.
The action, driven by the Department of Works and Urban Maintenance, aims to resolve the safety issues that this infrastructure has been facing. The current wooden flooring will be completely removed and replaced with a new structure featuring concrete curbs, a more solid and durable material than the previous one.
Councillor Antonio Saldaña has detailed that the investment is around €10,000 and that the deterioration of the wood, exacerbated by humidity and the passage of time, had already caused several falls among pedestrians. "Despite the repairs carried out in recent years, the material was largely rotting," he noted.
In addition to the new flooring, the renovation includes the installation of railings on both sides of the staircase, a measure designed to facilitate the transit of elderly people and those with reduced mobility. The aim, according to the councillor, is to ensure "more adequate" safety conditions for all users.
The works are scheduled to be completed before the start of the Alcalá de Henares Fairs and Festivals, so that access is operational for the celebrations. While the work is ongoing, pedestrians will need to use alternative access to the venue.
