The City Council of Coslada has joined the call from the Government Delegation in Madrid and has held a minute of silence for the 88-year-old woman murdered in San Sebastián de los Reyes. So far this year, 37 women have been murdered by their partners or ex-partners.
Municipal representatives from Coslada participated this Monday in a silent gathering to condemn the latest femicide, which occurred in San Sebastián de los Reyes and whose victim was a woman of 88 years. The event was held after the City Council of Coslada adhered to the call from the Government Delegation in Madrid.
The gathering is part of the acts of repudiation that are called every time a case of gender violence is confirmed. On this occasion, the Government Delegation against Gender Violence counts 37 women murdered by their partners or ex-partners this year, while the number of minors orphaned as a result of this violence has risen to 26.
Since 2003, the number of women murdered due to gender violence stands at 1,378, and the orphans counted since 2013 are 536, according to the latest data from the Government Delegation against Gender Violence.
The involvement of all public institutions in the fight against this structural violence is essential," stated the City Council of Coslada.
The council has reiterated its commitment to equality, prevention, victim support, and social awareness, as well as coordinated work with other administrations, entities, and groups involved in eradicating this violence.
The minute of silence was held in the square of the City Hall of Coslada, where municipal representatives and residents gathered to express their rejection of this crime. The Government Delegation in Madrid has activated the call for gatherings for all town halls that wish to join the acts of condemnation.
