The Local Police of Hoyo de Manzanares will launch a speed control campaign with mobile radar on urban roads in the municipality limited to 30 km/h between September 22 and 27. The aim is to prevent accidents and pedestrian injuries in the urban area.
Officers will place the radar in the most sensitive points in the municipality and in areas where residents have expressed concern about speeding. The campaign is coordinated by the Hoyo de Manzanares Town Hall through the Local Police.
The Town Hall justifies the measure with accident data: inappropriate speed is present in more than one in five fatal accidents and is the third most common contributing factor in serious incidents. Additionally, nearly half of drivers admit to exceeding speed limits in urban areas.
At 80 km/h, the likelihood of a pedestrian dying if hit is virtually total; at 30 km/h, the risk is reduced to 10%," the Town Hall states.
The Town Hall reminds that an increase of just 1 km/h in average speed raises the risk of accidents with victims, and that small variations can double the likelihood of a serious incident. On roads with a single lane in each direction, the 30 km/h limit aims to protect pedestrians, cyclists, and vulnerable users.
Controls will take place over six days at unspecified times. The campaign does not announce changes in signage or existing limits, which remain at 30 km/h on single-lane streets.
