The Rivas-Vaciamadrid City Council organises 'Know, Decide and Protect Yourself', a free 6-hour course on living wills, preventive powers, or inheritances. There are 20 places per edition and applications close on 15 September.
The City Council of Rivas-Vaciamadrid has launched 'Know, Decide and Protect Yourself', a practical workshop for seniors to learn about their rights and legal tools. The initiative was one of the winners of the Participatory Budget 2025 and is now debuting with 20 places per edition.
The course lasts 6 hours divided into three sessions of two hours. The first edition will take place at the Che Guevara centre on Mondays 21 and 28 September and Wednesday 23, from 9.15 to 11.15 or from 12.00 to 14.00, and also at the CERPA. To complete the workshop, attendance at all three sessions of the chosen edition is required.
The training is aimed at members of senior centres. Applications can be submitted until 15 September on the website inscripciones.rivasciudad.es or in person at the CERPA, the Social Area Parque Asturias, the Che Guevara centre, and the Felipe II senior centre.
The programme covers how to put in writing decisions regarding care, health, and assets, with content such as living wills, preventive powers, inheritances, lifetime donations, reverse mortgages, or the right to good treatment. It also includes tips for detecting potential abuse or negligence and knowing the resources available to maintain autonomy.
There will be new editions in other municipal spaces. The Felipe II senior centre will host the workshop on Fridays 16, 23, and 30 October, from 11.00 to 13.00, and the El Parque senior centre on Tuesdays 3, 10, and 17 November, from 10.00 to 12.00.
