San Fernando de Henares begins the school year on September 7 with around 4,500 students. The City Council has invested over €350,000 in improvements and announces another €4.4 million.
About 4,500 students aged between 0 and 16 will return to the classrooms in San Fernando de Henares starting next Monday, September 7, when the nursery schools, early childhood education centres, the seven public schools, and the Municipal School of Music and Dance 'Joaquín de Luz' open their doors. The three secondary schools will start a day later, on September 8.
Specifically, 4,098 students are enrolled: 356 in the first cycle of early childhood education, 696 in the second cycle, 1,827 in primary education, and 1,219 in secondary education. These numbers will soon be supplemented by data from the Baccalaureate and other modalities.
The mayor, Javier Corpa, and the councillor for Education, Carolina Gómez, presented the details today at CEIP Miguel Hernández. Corpa highlighted the work carried out during the summer as part of the Municipal Plan for Improvement and Maintenance of Educational Centres, with an investment exceeding €350,000 in painting, repairs, roofing, mosquito nets, and wall vinyls.
Throughout the summer, we have worked intensively to ensure that our centres are ready to welcome students and teaching staff in the best possible conditions,” the mayor stated.
The mayor also announced that the City Council will invest in climate control, a responsibility of the regional government, and will continue to demand that the Community of Madrid undertake structural works that have been pending for four years.
In the coming months, other investments will be executed: €750,000 to renew doors, windows, and LED lighting in schools, and €4.4 million for climate control, solar panels, and sports facilities in all public centres.
To facilitate work-life balance, this year the Funny School and Cole Abierto programmes return, with extended hours from 3 to 5 PM in June and September, and from 4 to 6 PM from October to May, with or without a snack. There will also be extracurricular activities and urban camps during holidays, with scholarships to ensure no family is excluded for economic reasons.
The City Council maintains the Municipal Aid Plan for School Materials, with the application period open from September 17 to 30.
