The City Council of Coslada has issued a manifesto of support for Ceuta in light of the migration crisis, advocating for the reception of minors and collaboration between administrations.
The City Council of Coslada has made public a manifesto of solidarity with Ceuta in response to the exceptional situation faced by the autonomous city due to the massive influx of thousands of people at the end of July. The text, released this Monday, expresses the municipality's support for the people of Ceuta and calls for a coordinated response from all administrations.
The manifesto, titled 'For Solidarity and Institutional Collaboration', emphasises the defence of the rights of migrants, refugees, and applicants for international protection, with particular attention to unaccompanied minors. The Coslada council asserts that the protection of these children cannot depend on the political will of each autonomous community and that Ceuta, like the Canary Islands or Melilla, cannot face a responsibility that belongs to the entire State alone.
The document criticises the European Union's border externalisation policy and calls for stable mechanisms of territorial solidarity to ensure reception under dignified conditions. It also acknowledges the comprehensive response deployed, which has included increased security, health and humanitarian resources, and new care infrastructures, noting that between eight and nine out of ten people who entered by swimming have already voluntarily returned to Morocco.
The City Council of Coslada condemns any form of violence, whether against migrants, the State Security Forces and Corps, the Armed Forces, or humanitarian organisations such as Red Cross, whose work it considers essential. The manifesto concludes with a call for calm and cooperation among local, regional, state, and European administrations to restore normalcy in Ceuta while ensuring human rights.
