The Coslada City Council has activated the orange alert for high temperatures for this Thursday, when a maximum of 39 degrees is expected. The State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) predicts that tomorrow the alert will drop to yellow, with 38 degrees, although the heat will not relent: 37 degrees on Sunday, 38 on Monday and 36 on Tuesday.
In light of this episode of intense heat, the council reminds citizens to take extra precautions, especially among the elderly, young children, pregnant women, and people with chronic illnesses. Recommendations include avoiding sun exposure during the hottest parts of the day, reducing physical activity, and not exercising outdoors, as well as staying hydrated with water frequently, even without feeling thirsty.
It also advises staying in cool or shaded places, wearing light, loose-fitting, and light-coloured clothing, protecting oneself with a hat or cap, and keeping windows, blinds, and curtains closed during the day, ventilating the home at night. Under no circumstances should children, elderly people, or animals be left inside parked vehicles.
The City Council urges residents to consult healthcare professionals if they experience symptoms such as dizziness, fatigue, or headaches, and calls for collective responsibility to identify and assist those who may be at risk.
