Rivas invests 600,000 euros in improvement works at 13 schools for the new academic year

The Rivas-Vaciamadrid City Council has carried out improvement works at 13 educational centres over the summer with an investment of 600,000 euros. Additionally, nine public schools are debuting air conditioning with an aerothermal system.

The schools in Rivas-Vaciamadrid are starting the academic year with significant improvements. The City Council has invested 600,000 euros in rehabilitation and adaptation works at 13 educational centres during the summer months, as reported by the Local Government Board.

The works have included the expansion and improvement of playgrounds, renovation of bathrooms, painting of classrooms, flooring changes, installation of play areas, and roof repairs. Sports courts have also been repaired with new elements such as basketball hoops and goals.

The affected Infant and Primary schools are La Escuela, Hans Christian Andersen, El Parque, José Saramago, El Olivar, Jarama, Las Cigüeñas, Victoria Kent, Dulce Chacón, José Hierro, and Mercedes Vera (Hispanidad). At the Infant School Pippi Längstrum, a shelter for baby carriages is being installed in the playground.

Furthermore, the City Council has launched the first phase of air conditioning for public schools and municipal infant schools, with an investment of 14.2 million euros. Using an aerothermal system, the schools Las Cigüeñas, Jarama, Mario Benedetti, and El Olivar have been air-conditioned, along with the four municipal infant schools and the Casita de Niños El Dragón.

In another matter, the Local Government Board has approved an addendum to the management agreement with the Ministry of Family, Youth, and Social Affairs to increase the Concepción Arenal day centre by 30 places, raising its capacity from 50 to 80 places (a 60% increase). The expansion works have involved a municipal investment of over 870,000 euros. The new places will be funded starting from 1 November.

The centre, shaped like an L, has created an interior courtyard with glass enclosures, two multipurpose rooms with a capacity for 30 people each, non-slip underfloor heating, and folding or sliding doors to facilitate accessibility. 69.6% of those requesting a place have been recognised as having a level II or III dependency.

Finally, an investment of 60,000 euros has been approved to install 25 smart lights at pedestrian crossings in the municipality, a decision made by the citizens through the Participatory Budgets.
