Hundreds of people gathered in the Plaza de España of Villanueva de la Cañada in solidarity with Ceuta, in an event called by the FEMP. The mayor read a manifesto and local resident Begoña Azcoitia voiced the text.
The Plaza de España of Villanueva de la Cañada hosted a gathering in support of Ceuta attended by hundreds of locals. The event, promoted by the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FEMP), was attended by the mayor, Luis Partida, and municipal councillors.
During the gathering, the organisation's manifesto was read, a text recited by Begoña Azcoitia, a Villanueva de la Cañada resident born in the autonomous city. In his speech, the mayor expressed his solidarity with the people of Ceuta.
Ceuta is Spain, and the people of Ceuta are part of our society and our history. In these particularly difficult times, we want to send them a clear message: they are not alone,” emphasised the mayor.
Partida added that “now more than ever” the municipality wants to remind that, “in the face of difficulties, unity, solidarity, and commitment are our best response.”
The gathering concluded with the national anthem being played, followed by applause from the attendees and cheers for Spain, Ceuta, Villanueva de la Cañada, and the King.
